– He portrayed the character of Doug Williams since 1970 and met his wife, actress Susan Seaforth Hayes, on the set of the series.


– Hayes celebrated his 98th birthday on the show's set last June.

– He died surrounded by family on a Friday, and the cause of death has not been disclosed.

– Born in 1925 in Harvey, Illinois, Hayes initially pursued a career in music and achieved success with The Ballad of Davy Crockett.

– Transitioning to acting, he gained recognition for his  role as a lounge singer and convict on NBC's Days of Our Lives from 1970  to 2023.

– Their characters' wedding in the show was also replicated in real life on television.
